29th April 2010
The most powerful search tool for UK events just got better.
The team at woZZon are now proud to introduce the new woZZon with a face lift. It’s been an exciting journey for the team and a lot has changed since the official launch in March 2009. With constant feedback and suggestions from its users, woZZon revamped its 'look and feel’. 'View the new woZZon’
The team says: "The idea behind woZZon is simple yet a highly effective one: to find out 'What's On’ near you, so when our users requested some changes to woZZon, we listened. We’ve also made sure that our users can find those very ultra local community events."
If you haven't seen the new version it's definitely worth a look. The home page features editorial picks of the UK's hottest events. The site will soon feature selections for each city and region across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
It's all about the local community events!
With Global DataPoint as its sister company, woZZon has the most comprehensive event and 'What's On' data covering the whole of the UK. What makes woZZon different is the focus on local community events. By entering your postcode or town you're bound to discover something very local to you.
User generated content is the answer to success
Although, woZZon has the most comprehensive events and what's on data we believe that we can revolutionize event listings with help from our users. As the site is now re-designed it's much easier for its users to add local places with events within their local community.
woZZon still provide the same service
Although the designs have changed, woZZon still provides the same quality service. We've made it easier for its users to navigate through the site to find events in their local area. Venue owners and promoters will also find it easier to add events and venue images to woZZon.

woZZon wins Nokia UK's Calling All Innovators competition
13th Jan 2010
Events Search Engine woZZon has taken the top prize in Nokia’s Calling All Innovators Competition which targeted talented UK developers and asked them to fulfil a brief to create the next big thing in mobile applications.
Since the advent of the smartphone, the market for mobile phones has been electrified and the big players are constantly searching for new innovations. woZZon knew they had something special to offer so the team worked all out to win the fiercely fought prize.
The idea behind woZZon is a simple yet highly effective one: to find out what’s on near you. The woZZon search engine gives easy access to a comprehensive database of 60,000 geo-coded venues and 90,000 unique events across 15 genres. The data is checked by editors daily to ensure accuracy and ranges from large stadium events to local village hall gatherings. Nokia were impressed with the way that woZZon data syncs with Ovi’s rich mappings to create a powerful and useful social tool.
The top prize of £20,000 cash also includes having the woZZon application published on Nokia’s Ovi Store, Nokia’s sponsorship to become an Ovi Store publisher and one year’s membership to Forum Nokia Launchpad. There is also the exciting possibility that the woZZon App will be a preload on all future Nokia devices.
Sarah Longhurst woZZon Project Co-Ordinator summed-up the win: “The woZZon team were delighted to be chosen as Nokia’s 2009 Calling All Innovators UK Grand Prize winner. woZZon not only tells you about large events such as festivals, it has a strong focus on really local events, from your local village hall fete to your nearest pub quiz. Integrating woZZon with Ovi Maps is pivotal in providing users a simple and useful tool to discover what’s on around them."
Rupert Englander, UK head of services at Nokia said: “We were looking for bold ideas from talented developers who could demonstrate a real understanding of what UK consumers want from mobile content. The woZZon application stood out for its innovative geo-coded venues which ties to Ovi Maps, and the sheer volume of data accessible via the app. The App automatically charts your GPS position and searches for your chosen subject, so whether you are after a restaurant, cinema, Salsa club or gig you can find it via woZZon."
woZZon is part of the Science Navigation Group and is a sister company of Telmap, a leading provider of mobile mapping and navigation solutions.
- We have full colour screen shots which give a sneak preview of the forthcoming (early 2010) woZZon Nokia Mobile App. Please ask if these are required and we will email them to you.

woZZon loves live music and has the best and most comprehensive live listings data in the UK
To celebrate this fact, we have launched a series of short Q&A interviews with high-profile woZZon users. In the first instalment of woZZon Now we take a look at people from inside the world of music: from live event or club promoters to upcoming artists and keen gig-goers. See woZZon Now for full interviews.
The Promoter
Paul Tunkin, the brains behind the Blow Up organisation, began his career as a tour DJ for Blur and Suede. Paul uses woZZon.com to search for original and exciting bands. He talks about his ever-changing role as record label boss, live gig promoter, DJ and Club entrepreneur.
The Artist
LA born China Soul has recently settled in the UK. She is the daughter of David Soul, UK chart-topping singer and star of the cult 70s TV Cop show Starsky & Hutch. Her sound is very different to that of her father. China's music is a seemingly contradictory, but potent mix of eerie nu folk and classic soul, laced with vintage jazz. She loves the UK scene and uses woZZon.com to plan her evenings out.
The fan
Ray Morrissey is the godfather of gig reviewers. A prolific concertgoer, he was 14 when he went to his first live show and has chronicled every one, from 1973 to the present day. The list varies: from Slade and Madonna to The Sex Pistols and Babyshambles; he's seen them all. He now uses woZZon.com to catch up with the latest gigs, large or small.
If you want any more information about woZZon Now or would like to feature extracts from these interviews please contact:

woZZon Launches iPhone What's On Application.
8th May 2009
iPhone Apps
Do we really need them?
There are now more than 35,000 Apps available on the iPhone but where do you start?
There are gaming based apps and useless ones such as Tickle Me (the iPhone touchscreen responds to playful tickles with uproarious childlike laughter) or the iBeer App (hold the phone to your lips, tip it up; it empties into your mouth, or rather it doesn't, it just looks like it does). A thoroughly empty experience, also available in a child friendly application called iMilk (in which you deprive the poor little mite of milk). Hilarious! Or possibly not.
Surely the time has come for iPhone apps that actually have some use. Time for the woZZon for What's on App.
Groundbreaking new application gives super fast access to over 70,000 events and 57,000 venue listings in the UK.
Just imagine you are stuck in a city centre: you have been out for a meal and fancy making a life-changing decision. You could play with the iBeer and Tickle Me Apps, but two minutes later, you remain unfulfilled. You decide to join a salsa club but don't know where they can be found. Time for the woZZon App to come to the rescue. The App automatically charts your GPS position and searches for your chosen subject. Hey presto, all the salsa clubs in your immediate area are located

Lift-off for a brand new Digital Entertainment Service covering the whole of the UK
05 March 2009
Last night, a powerful new search tool for UK events and venues, woZZon (www.wozzon.com) had its official launch. Supported by the most comprehensive events and venues database in the UK, woZZon is designed to be an essential tool for our digital-led lifestyles, online and on mobile phones. While Google helps you locate the most commonly listed events, information overload often means the best ones in your area can be the hardest to find. Now you can find something to suit the most varied of tastes. With woZZon you take less time searching for what's on in your area and more time enjoying it.
woZZon celebrated the launch of its service with a very special party at the Soho celebrity hangout, Punk. Although the club achieved recent notoriety for hosting A-list celebrities such as Kate Moss and Paris Hilton, woZZon aimed to introduce its audience to innovative and upcoming acts, in the hope that they would experience something fresh and exciting, in keeping with the spirit of our new digital service, woZZon. Headliner at the party was the underground beatboxing flautist, Nathan "Flutebox" Lee, playing with his international band of acoustic musicians. woZZon also proudly introduced independent singer/songwriter, Kyo, who made her live solo debut.
Since the beta version of woZZon went live last year, the listed events have included film, theatre, gigs, exhibitions, comedy, clubs, classical music, family events and more. Now, in conjunction with the Launch Party, a further 35,000 restaurants, cafes and pubs have been added. Further new features include the Wonders of woZZon, which celebrates some of the UK's most unusual events. The Launch Party was also an opportunity to introduce the woZZon iPhone application. iPhone users in the UK will be able to find out what's on in their area in a few seconds while out and about, as the application automatically finds their precise location, delivering only relevant results.
Whereas most search engines use computer programs to guess the best search results, woZZon data is authoritatively sourced by teams of editors who collect and check information from over 60,000 venues, ensuring relevant and reliable search results. This leads to millions of individual events listed in a year, which can be displayed on an interactive map or in detailed listings. Now, the woZZon team is making a call for all promoters, venue owners, performers and anyone attending events to add their own content. The smallest and most unusual event organisers are encouraged to promote themselves for free on woZZon, from large gigs at the O2 to street performers with no venue besides a roadside pavement. Also, the fans and critics have somewhere to voice their views for free, by adding events and venues, ratings and reviews.
Note to Editors:

About the Acts:
Nathan 'Flutebox' Lee was recently placed 18th in Arena magazine's list of 'Top 100 coolest things on the planet'. Songlines magazine said, "[Nathan] is fast becoming one of the hottest UK live acts. Beatboxing is no longer unique to Urban music thanks to Nathan 'Flutebox' Lee". Nathan's trademark FLUTEBOXING simultaneously combines beatboxing with playing the flute. Nathan's performances blend Hip Hop, Drum n' Bass and Ragga beats with Indian classical, Jazz and Funk melodies. More info on Nathan 'Flutebox' Lee's MySpace page: http://bit.ly/PdJWt
Kyo is a singer/songwriter and guitarist from west London who has been writing songs for 13 years and recently ventured into producing her own eclectic folk/soul music. Kyo is now recording and producing her debut album Rhythmic Silence, and has a single due out later this year with the band Degrees of Freedom. Kyo's vocals feature on the Symmetry album by Drum n' Bass artist Break and she will be lending her vocals to various forthcoming projects and collaborations in the future.
About Punk nightclub:
Punk is not just another club with a nondescript interior, charging extortionate drink prices and playing funky house, R&B and 'eclectic beats'. Punk ushers in a more casual, hip policy that rebels against the establishment. We've all heard of mashed-up music, Punk now brings you mashed-up entertainment. A permanent stage allows live music and cabaret to sit side by side with nights like Smash & Grab, Bangers & Mash, Glamour:oke and I Heart Niyi hosted by Super Super.
So far the club has entertained the likes of Gossip, Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, Maximo Park, UnkleJam, Supergrass, Ronnie Wood, Mark Ronson, Johnny Borrell, David Walliams, Mario Testino, Jay Kay, Bobby Gillespie, Mick Jones, Mika, Philip Treacy, Kate Moss, Julien Macdonald, Matthew Williamson, Lily Allen, Mary-Kate Olsen, Agyness Deyn, Paris Hilton, Lady GaGa and Kelly Osbourne.
The UK's Best Time Out Just Got Better
30 December 2008
The most powerful search tool for UK events has now been launched online so anyone can find a time out to suit their tastes. woZZon (www.wozzon.com) offers less time searching for what's on in your area and more time enjoying it. While Google makes it easy to find the biggest events in the area, information overload often means the best ones are the hardest to find.
Now film, theatre, gigs, exhibitions, comedy, clubs, classical music, family events and more can be found in one place. There are over 50,000 events listed at any time. In January for instance, you can enjoy some live music at The Old Success Inn at Land's End, or take the kids on a cultural trip to the Bonhoga Gallery in the Shetland Islands. Alternatively, readers in your area will find all sorts going on closer to home if they search for events on the site.
woZZon is the most comprehensive events listings service in the UK. Whereas most search engines use computer programs to guess the best search results, woZZon collects data from over 20,000 venues which is collated by a team of editors, to provide relevant and reliable results. This leads to tens of millions of individual events listed in a year. Search results can also be viewed on an interactive map to show their location close to you. Added to that, anyone can contribute their own venues, events, comments and reviews.
The service is currently in public beta, ahead of a full launch early in 2009. woZZon can be used online or on a mobile. It's free for anyone to search and contribute content and will remain free when launched. In the development pipeline for the next few months, the site will roll out additional features including an advanced mobile version for phones with GPS. Everyone in the UK will be able to ask their phone "what's on?" and the results will be matched to their precise location.
woZZon's Product Manager, Ingeborg Albert, added that, "woZZon does not try to do a hundred different things, we just want to provide a listings service which is faster, more relevant and more comprehensive than any other" What's more, the woZZon team are making a call for all promoters, venue owners, performers and anyone attending events to add their own content. Now even the most unusual events can be promoted for free, and the fans and critics have somewhere to voice their views.
